Courses

The concepts and methods of physics impact nearly all areas of human endeavor. The Department of Physics offers courses in physics for the entire Cornell community. There are general education courses for non-scientists, well-designed introductory sequences for science and engineering majors, more advanced courses for physics majors, and rigorous programs of graduate study, up to doctoral-level independent research.

  • Inês Firmo is a graduate student in the group of Professor Séamus Davis. Using an ultra-vibration insulated, dilution refrigerator based Scanning Tunneling Microscope (STM), Inês probes the electronic structure of strongly correlated materials such as heavy fermion compounds and cuprate high temperature superconductors. ‘STM’, Inês says, ‘is an outstanding probe for measuring with atomic resolution the topography and local density of states, as well as the band structure in a wide range of materials.’ More...
